The pell grant is a form of financial aid that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. While it can be of great assistance for those who are attending college, there are some pell grant requirements that have to be completed before being allowed to obtain it. The first thing that a person has to do is fill out a Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA).
After filling out the FAFSA, the financial aid staff at the school that one is attending will determine whether he or she is elligible for a pell grant. Usually, people whose family income is less than $50,000 will be elligible. Most people who are awarded the pell grant have family incomes of $20,000 of less.
The amount of money that a person recieves is based on two things the cost of attendance and the expected family contribution. The expected family income is subtracted from the cost of attendance. The remaining amount of money is how much pell grant someone will be awarded.
Recipients of the pell grant are also required to be enrolled for at least 6 hours a semester, complete satisfactory academic work, and be working towards a degree or certificate in a elligible program.
